You're in the Army Now
March 16: U.S. Military Academy established
After searching for many days for a YouTube video then for any audio file of this song, I remembered why I'd petered out. It simply isn't out there in a place I can find it, so I'm moving on. Here are the lyrics. If you find an audio or video file of "You're in the Army Now" by Abe Lyman and His Californians, the music for which is used in the opening credits of the above Popeye movie, then please leave a comment for me with the link.

How to use this blog
Welcome to A Song A Day!
This blog presents a song a day of music which has shaped the American culture. These are songs which every American would do well to recognize, though many of them are not themselves American songs. Ranging from folk to classical, serious to silly, religious to secular, past to present, they are songs which define the quintessential American experience. Inspired by my good friend B.G. who has frequently said to me, "I've never heard that one before!" this blog is for him and all others like him to come to recognize, and hopefully know and appreciate, the music that inspires America. Please bookmark this page now so you'll be able to find it again. You can also subscribe by clicking here.
Each day includes a song title, a video of the song, and a link to learn more about that day in history. Songs are added one week at a time each Sunday. Please take this information and apply it to your own lives and families as you best see fit.
“There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit)”
